- Collate ideas to build products. Can use existing ideas, and help to develop new ideas based on industry experience and past contacts. Must enjoy spending time in the market and desktop research to understand their problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market. Work with an engineering counterpart (Project Manager) to define product release requirements. Work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. Will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for product offering, occasionally working with the sales channel and key customers.
A product manager's key role is strategic, not tactical. The other BUs will support strategic efforts of Product Manager; Product Manager won't be supporting their tactical tasks.
Collaborates with the Sales to determine pricing on products offered, target markets and product line forecasting. Interacts with customers, channel partners, field sales, and product development.
Complete product line responsibility (product, promotion, pricing, and channel) for a defined portfolio of products.
Express an idea or process in a detailed product specification.
Responsible for developing and implementing product line growth strategies (new/existing customers, new/existing market penetration, new/existing geography, new/existing channel).
Investigates market needs for innovative products and works with Engineering to appropriately prioritize product development efforts for the product line.
Conducts market research through trade associations, internet investigation and Corporate services.
Supports field sales and distributors as required to drive sales of the product line.
Develops/performs product line training for field sales, channel, and customers.
Maintains high level of applications knowledge by continually improving knowledge and know-how related to a defined portfolio of products.
Monitors competitors and competitive products. Participates in the development and implementation of appropriate response strategies.
Ability to travel frequently to customer/channel locations for technical support and training.
Monitors product and market trends and recommends appropriate actions.
