Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out all instrumentation checks and tests as Pre-commissioning and Commissioning checklist, test sheet and related procedures as per discipline scope of work and schedule.

Qualification and Experience

  • At least five (5) years relevant working experience in oil and gas project
  • Excellent knowledge in instrumentation system and related test, calibration and safety regulation
  • Experience in all related electrical systems and sub-systems in oil and facilities (Onshore and Offshore)
  • Able to read instruments engineering documents such as loop diagrams, drawings, P&IDs, data sheets, single line diagrams, etc and have working knowledge of instrument and control main equipment
  • Familiar with systemization commissioning operation and able to handle of all related instrument tasks as per system and sub-system.
  • Able to communicate in English: both written and verbal.

Millwright Technician

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out the all relevant tasks of millwrighting for related tasks of mechanical systems as per Pre -commissioning and Commissioning checklist, test sheet and related procedures as per discipline scope of work and schedule
  • Assistance in fill -up all the checks and tests results in issued Check sheets, Test sheets and technical input to all aspects of pre - commissioning and commissioning of millwrighting for related tasks of mechanical systems after completion of task as per cooperation with mechanical engineer
  • Focuses on the security and safety of the commissioning activities

  • Experience in all related activities of millwrighting in oil and facilities (Onshore & Offshore) Able to read engineering documents such as drawings, vendor data, data sheets, etc. and have working knowledge of rotary equipment
  • Millwrights will lift heavy objects, physically manipulate objects with tools and need strength

Mechanical Technician

Roles and Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineer / Piping Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Responsible for planning and reporting Pre -commissioning activities to the Pre - commissioning Manager

  • Checks the procurement status of the Pre -commissioning consumables, and the arrangement of vendor specialists

Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning Manager

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Participates in and take responsibility for strategic decision and risk management as a member of the management team for the project
  • Establish project philosophies for Mechanical Completion, Commissioning and Operability. Implement these philosophies into early design in order to ease execution of Mechanical completion, Commissioning and Turnover to Operations.
  • Identify manpower needs and adequately staff for Commissioning Engineering (Planning), Mechanical Completion Control (PreCommissioning), Commissioning and Turnover at the construction site.
  • Control and report on progress and quality of all stages of specified scope of work such as technical preparation phase and execution phase of Mechanical Completion (PreCommissioning), Commissioning Startup Assistance and Maintenance.
  • Responsibility on necessary preparations and planning of the completion work to be performed at the site
  • Work instruction required for overall Mechanical Completion, Commissioning and all relevant tasks as per contractual scope of work
  • .Establish the Project Execution Plan (PEP) for the project according to received RFQ / Contract. Responsibility to provide all necessary resources for the project such as engineering documentation, manpower, tools & equipment, etc
  • .Provide assistance to company to develop a complete training program for all company personnel involved in all related services such as leak testing and hook -up commissioning, start -up assistance, operations and maintenance facility.
  • Directly supervises the Testing services and Commissioning Manager assigned to the project.

Qualification and Experience


  • At least fifteen (15) years experience working with an Oil and Gas company and related project in onshore/offshore.
  • Be skilled in communication, coordination and presentation.
  • Proficiency in English; both written and verbal.
  • Able to read engineering documents such as drawings, specifications, standards, etc.
  • Have working knowledge in Construction, Mechanical completion of E&I and operation maintenance in oil and gas industries.
  • Able to lead and manage the commissioning team in all phases of project as per Client request.
  • Knowledge of planning and Cost control system, electronic document management system ( EDMS), computerize maintenance management system (CMMS). Completion Management System (CMS) and other key elements of Commissioning Management system would also be an advantage
Commissioning Superintendent

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Supervise development of Commissioning procedures for assigned units, develop metrics and track progress of CP development
  • Ensure support provided (CO and Operators) for mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and PSSR walk downs to ensure unit is ready to move into Commissioning phase
  • Review pre-commissioning completion and provide initial sign off it has been completed satisfactorily to allow for incident free-commissioning.
  • Ensure operations support during loop, DCS, PLC, Complex loop, and functional testing required.
  • Supervised unit commissioning team for assigned units to ensure safe and incident free execution of assigned units Commissioning procedures.
  • Assist the SIMOPS coordinators on requirements for assigned unit, ensuring any other competing activity (construction punch work, precommissioning or start-up) are safe to do in parallel with commissioning or stopped while commissioning activity proceeds. Including writing permits and sign off as Facility Owner Delegate for Unit
  • At end of commissioning of assigned unit, may be asked to provide supervising support in the full start-up of the assigned unit in the following area. i) Understanding of Unit Operations ii) Understanding of Start-up procedures iii) Understanding of Emergency procedures iv) Ability to stand-in as Start-up Shift Supervisor as required. h. Assist other areas supervising generic commissioning tasks as required.

Qualification and Experience


  • Minimum twenty (20) years of experience in Refining Operations, with at least five (5) years of experience in Supervision
  • Demonstrated supervision of console and outside operators for the units assigned to commission.
  • Proven experience in supervision of Commissioning procedure execution
  • Proven experience to review and comment on commissioning procedure and then sign off once complete and accurate.
  • Significant supervisory experience in the commissioning and commissioning of process unit/systems in the downstream Oil and Gas facilities, including Utility units, Hydro-processing units, Sulfur recovery with associated units, Hydrogen plants and Distillation units
  • .Excellent supervisory and leadership skills with ability to plan commissioning activities and react to construction and pre-commissioning under delivery.
  • The job demands a high standard of verbal & written English, a strong team player with highly effective communications and PC skills

Commissioning Specialist

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Write and/or review correct Commissioning procedures for assigned Units
  • Participates and/or lead mechanical completion, pre -commissioning and PSSR walk downs to ensure unit is ready to move into commissioning phase
  • Validate pre -commissioning has been completed satisfactorily to allow for incident free commissioning.
  • Represent BAPCO during loop, DCS, PLC, Complex loop and functional testing as required
  • Safe and incident free execution of assigned units commissioning procedures
  • Assist the SIMOPS coordinator on requirements for assigned unit, ensuring any other competing activity (construction punch work, pre - commissioning or start up) are safe to do in parallel with commissioning or stopped while commissioning activity proceeds including writing permits and sign off as Facility Owner for unit.
  • At end of commissioning of assigned units, may be asked to support operations in the full start -up of the assigned unit and will need the basic abilities.
  • Understanding of Unit operation

  • Proven experience in executing assigned Commissioning procedures
  • Proven experience to review and comment and/or write commissioning procedures.
  • Significant experience in the pre - commissioning and commissioning of process unit/systems in the downstream Oil and Gas facilities, including utility units, Hydro - processing units Sulfur Recovery with associated units, Hydrogen plants and distillation units.
  • .Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to mentor Bahraini operations personnel during the commissioning process. The job demands a high standard of verbal & written English, a strong team player with highly effective communications and PC skills.

Senior Technician

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Leads and motivates staff assigned to him on complex repair work at shops and at fields.
  • Participates in the trouble shooting of rotating equipment, relief valves and process valve problems.
  • Takes the lead on the "on job training" for new technicians (trainees) as well as on going development of existing staff.
  • Plays a key role in the planning stage of major equipment overhaul by assisting the supervisor in spare parts review and in the development of work plans.
  • Leads the crew during absence of his supervisor.
  • Assists his supervisor in ensuring adherence to work safety procedures and in execution of machinery, relief valves and process valves major overhauls and T&I activities.
  • Conducts offsite inspection to contractors performing overhauls repair and testing of Bapco rotating equipment and process valves ensuring that all work complies with company standards and procedures on delegation from his supervisor.
  • Assists in the "on going" process for the improvement of spare parts issues such as bill of materials and spare parts set ups.

Qualification and Experience


  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Detailed practical knowledge & experience of machinery obtained through an Engineering Apprenticeship or similar formal training programme.
  • Eight (8) years' experience as Mechanical Technician in Bapco or other related heavy/process industry, with a major process Plant Manufacturers

Mechanical Engineer

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Study daily operation turnovers to keep up to date knowledge about all rotating machinery in his assigned respective areas.
  • Carry out troubleshooting of all machinery problems in his respective areas, and recommend corrective actions to rectify problems.
  • Participate in meetings with Shutdown Department, plan, organize and execute all mechanical work to be conducted during process units T&ls related to his area. Planning all resources required to ensure that spare parts and manpower are available during the T&I.
  • Plan, organize and execute major overhauls and minor inspections of major machinery in his respective areas as per "Mechanical Services Minor Shutdown Schedules".
  • Participate in the Area Reliability Team and other Engineering projects belong to the area to improve the reliability/ availability/ efficiency of the plant.
  • Assist in pre-qualification of contractors and initiate CFMs or other contract documents required to develop/ renew contracts owned by M SD mechanical.
  • Identify problem areas address weakness or deficiencies in the management of the business of rotating equipment such as spare parts issues, training requirements, quality, safety and productivity issues.

Operation Specialist

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Recommends, plans and actions improvements to the operation of the units to meet requested product slate at minimum cost consistent with safe operating practices. Initiates and conducts surveys, test runs and investigations, analyse and evaluate results to formulate processing plans accordingly.
  • Confers with Superintendent and operating personnel and visits units & control room daily to remain fully aware of the status of the plants. Examines problems or unusual conditions and takes necessary actions to restore optimal unit-operating conditions.
  • Remains up-to-date and priorities maintenance requirements and activities to ensure maximum equipment availability & reliability in a cost effective manner.
  • Reviews and monitors product yields, utilities consumption and plant performance data on a daily basis to maintain and enhance the most profitable operating patterns and minimize product losses. Develops and monitors energy conservation measures within the section to reduce energy losses and attain target EII
  • Acts as Shutdown Co-coordinator during unit shutdowns. Responsible for the safe preparation and handover of equipment, authorization of permits and ensuring that recognized safe work practices, procedures and standards are followed by all personnel.
  • Plans unit shutdown & equipment handover schedules and manpower requirements to minimize unit downtime and prevent schedule over run
  • Applies engineering knowledge and principles coupled with operating experience to solve operational problems, improve operating methods and eliminate process restrictions or deficiencies. Monitors usage of high value chemicals, catalysts and other materials used in the unit.
  • Develops and conducts operational training for new techniques, modifications, operational mode and equipment and ensures that target dates and programmed are achieved to ensure competency of operators.
  • Conducts Pre-Start up Safety Reviews (PSSR) upon completion of maintenance activities and prior to unit start up following unit T&I or equipment modification / changes that affect operations.

Qualification and Experience


  • BSc in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with minimum of 8 years practical and administrative experience in Refinery process units. Other combinations of education & experience are acceptable. At least 2 years as Shift Supervisor or Senior Engineer and minimum 2 years in Oil Processing Department (OPD) or equivalent

Shift Supervisor

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Instructs and guides unit crews for achieving target throughput following best operating practices & procedures.
  • Makes detailed inspection of all units to ensure operating instructions and procedures are correctly & conscientiously complied with, equipment are correctly operated & maintained in a safe & efficient manner and a good standard of housekeeping is enforced in the units
  • .Initiates actions to improve yields and/or to check & rectify off specification results. Monitors consumption of chemicals, catalysts, lubricants and consumables used to ensure economic usage
  • .Checks and updates status of all maintenance work in progress within the section to ensure maximum availability of critical as well as standby equipment Produces and issues Unavailable Equipment List on a weekly basis and forwards this to section Operations Specialist.
  • Approves Hot Work Permits after consulting senior staff and issues work permits for critical jobs (crane permits, confined space permits and special hazard permits). Ensures compliance with company Permit to Work system, safe work practices, guidelines & standards
  • Exercises personal control to make decisions and take immediate action to alleviate / mitigate emergencies, abnormal or critical conditions with no prior approval (including unit shutdown) in order to safeguard the integrity of equipment and personnel & minimize impact of such situations
  • .Checks and reports on the training of personnel, prepares appraisals and conducts tests to monitor progress and ensure competent unit manpower. Advises senior staff of any personnel related concerns including competency, training and disciplinary action issues.
  • Administrates personnel related activities (vacation, sickness, time keeping) for all staff directly assigned.
  • Carries out emergency checks and conducts safety talks to increase safety awareness of unit crew and establish highest safety standards. Qualification and Experience


  • Minimum 8 years of experience in process operations, including at least 5 years experience on relevant units within the section. Ideally the jobholder will be educated to G.C.S.E. A Level or HND in technical subject (preferably Chemical Engineering) however various combinations of education & experience are acceptable.
  • Must be able to oversee and operate the section as an entity and take appropriate action in emergency situations. Must have detailed knowledge of all Process and Utility systems in the section and all Refinery interconnecting systems

Operator - System

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Read and understand daily order book and perform assigned tasks as per operating training manuals (OTM) and technical instructions to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Carry out thorough daily routine check of the units, effluent systems, utilities lines and associated equipment, check for leaks/abnormalities, make necessary adjustments, report unusual findings and raise necessary work requests for approval to ensure that the effluent systems are free from oil contamination
  • .Carry out process adjustments to unit variables in accordance with standard operating techniques, operating instructions or as directed to ensure safe operations. Continuously monitor and regulate the condition of the plant using DCS/Analogue Control panel and take corrective action if necessary.
  • Initiate emergency action to shutdown equipment and utilities lines and perform emergency procedures to secure and isolate unit equipment or utilities systems for safeguarding the unit, equipment and utilities supply lines for preventing disturbance/effects to the consumers. Operate fire pumps to maintain system pressure during fire situations
  • Draw samples as per sample schedule, check Laboratory results and adjust unit conditions per standard techniques or as directed to ensure that the unit operation is safe and products are on specifications.
  • Perform isolation of equipment for maintenance as per established safety standards, check and sign off lists and documents related to start-up and shutdown activities to ensure safe and timely shutdown and start-up to eliminate or minimize impact of fire, safety or environmental hazards
  • Write shift turnovers for completed and in process jobs for the benefit of the following shift operators, issue and approve work permits on the shift and monitor the work in progress for compliance to the operating instructions on the permits for safety of the unit/system & maintenance personnel involved

Head Operator

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Monitors unit operations and initiates adjustments to unit parameters to meet product specifications with minimum loss and product degradation.
  • Prepares work orders to correct defects and submits other word lists for repairs at unit shutdowns to ensure availability of operation of standby equipment and to ascertain availability and serviceability of all emergency and Fire equipment.
  • Supervises operation of all units assigned when conditions are abnormal and exercises personal control when conditions are critical, i.e. during emergencies to safeguard the units and equipment under the job holders control to ensure efficient & timely safe shutdown and start -up of the assigned units.
  • Directs the preparation of equipment for maintenance work and stipulates safety precautions to ensure proper isolation and decommissioning of equipment before maintenance work begins
