Surya Hotels owns and operates a family of 14 hotels in East Anglia and Surrey in the UK. We are now seeking a Financial Director, experienced in the Hotel sector, to take our Finance function forwards as we continue to grow and look for opportunities and potentially acquire additional hotels.

Our finance team are responsible for all financial functions throughout the Group and the Finance Director role will lead the small team to drive the functions forwards, ensuing all statutory and internal deadlines are met.

Reporting to the Managing Director and Group CFO, key responsibilities will include:

- Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions

- Preparation of budgets, cascading and embedding through business and sites

- Report generation and commentary to Board and business stakeholders on all financial elements

- Working with Hotel GMs to own their P&L accounts

- Ownership of all aspects of financial reporting including delivering month end

- Oversee creation of journals, reviewing reconciliations and monthly management accounts with variance analysis

- Responsible for and assist in the preparation of the monthly consolidated accounts and submission to Group Finance.

- Assist in updating the appraisals of those accounts monthly, including reducing debtors, plans for remedy mindful review of corporate accounts

- Prepare and challenge the monthly profit forecast

- Ownership of the weekly / monthly cashflow forecast

- Ownership of the finance monthly board pack

- Ownership of the annual budget pack

- Project work, e.g., leading and working with Operations and/ or Commercial Revenue teams on the implementation of stock, EPOS, and auto check-in systems

- Lead and develop the finance team, including developing and mentoring their growth and knowledge, and succession planning future

- Ensure accurate and timely submission of the VAT and other HMRC returns

- Ensure site management teams are informed of processes and they are compliant with relevant policies and controls

- Ensure compliance with all statutory and financial accounting requirements (Financial Reporting Standards, HMRC and best practice)

- Lead the preparation and review of annual Statutory Accounts

- Liaise with the group finance function and external auditor in the conduct of audits, reviews and investigations and act as necessary to write and continually evolve financial accounting SOPs and service.

To be successful you MUST have experience at Director level in a multi-site Hotel chain/group. You should have led a finance department and preferably be a qualified ACCA/CIMA (although not essential) with a minimum of five years PQE and possess proven budgeting and forecasting skills. You should be able to evidence ways in which you have improved efficiencies within your teams and functions.

  • Sound IT skills, including financial accounting packages.
  • An analytical, enquiring mind.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Good commercial and business awareness.

  • Good management skills.
  • Good prioritisation and strong time management.

You should be familiar with UK statutory regulations, experience working within UK companies will be highly advantageous.
